Top Notch Free Programs

Why Pay when there is so much Open Source

Free Programs

GNU programs can be your best friend when starting a small business. Every dollar counts so save where you can. Instead of buying a program that often cost hundreds of dollars try out a free version first. I use Microsoft Office and I love it, but I got it free through work. If I ever loose it I will switch to Open Office, a compatible program suite that has pretty much everything office has free to use not strings.

GNU General Public License

The GNU General Public License (GNU GPL or GPL) is the most widely used free software license, which guarantees end users (individuals, organizations, companies)

the freedoms to run, study, share (copy), and modify the software.

Gimp is one of my favorite free programs.

Gimp is a huge Free program that I use everyday. There is no reason to buy a picture editor when you can use Gimp for free.

Whether you are a graphic designer, photographer, illustrator, or scientist, GIMP provides you with sophisticated tools to get your job done. It is every bit as good as Photo Shop.

If you would like to be able to make your own graphics like the USA button you see above or maybe you just want to write the words happy birthday or I love you on top of your favorite photos, then go download GIMP. The program was started over 20 years ago and truly is free for what ever reasons you want.

After you have the program loaded on your computer go to YouTube and search for gimp tutorials. There are tons of help videos to teach you how to use the program.

Visit there website to download Gimp HERE

UGS – Universal Gcode Sender is another top notch program. I use it every day.

You can find it on GitHub.

Free CAD

FreeCAD, like many modern design applications such as Revit or CATIA, is based on the concept of Workbench. A workbench can be considered as a set of tools specially grouped for a certain task. In a traditional furniture workshop, you would have a work table for the person who works with wood, another one for the one who works with metal pieces, and maybe a third one for the guy who mounts all the pieces together.

In FreeCAD, the same concept applies. Tools are grouped into workbenches according to the tasks they are related to. Click here download

Blender is 5 STARs

Blender is a 3-D modeler.

It is a free open source program with tremendous abilities. Blender is a 3D manipulation program of very high quality. You can build a variety of things like this YouTube video you see below, make animated movies, edit movies, and do 3D modeling.  You will need a good graphics card for this program.
